The short version

What you write about your loved one stays on your device. The obituary writer composes text entirely in your browser — nothing you type into it is sent to, stored on, or readable by our servers. The only personal information we ever hold is an email address you explicitly choose to give us.

The obituary writer

All composition happens locally in your browser using JavaScript template logic. Your answers are saved to your own browser’s local storage so an accidental page refresh doesn’t lose your draft; that backup never leaves your device, and you can clear it by clearing your browser data. Downloads (.txt, .docx) are generated on your device.

Email addresses

If you use the optional “email yourself a copy” feature or the contact form, we store the email address you provide, the date, and which page it came from, so we can respond or — occasionally and gently — share resources we think genuinely help. We never sell or share addresses, and every email we send includes an unsubscribe link honored immediately. The obituary text itself is sent through your own mail app, not our servers.

Analytics

We record anonymous, aggregate usage events (for example, “an obituary was composed”) to understand which tools help. These events contain no names, no obituary text, and no personal details. We do not use advertising trackers or sell data to anyone.

Cookies and local storage

We use browser local storage for your draft backup and session storage to avoid repeating prompts. We set no advertising cookies.

Third parties

The site is hosted on Vercel, and email addresses are stored in a database hosted by Supabase. Both act as processors on our behalf. No third party receives your obituary content — it never leaves your browser.

Questions or removal requests

To have your email address removed, use any unsubscribe link or reach us via the contact page and we’ll delete it promptly.
